NPP Committee members leave Imphal

Members of National People's Party (NPP) Committee who were here since Wednesday to gather opinions from party legislatures, executive members, the intellectual circle and block level representatives on how to strengthen the party and whether to continue supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led state government, left for Guwahati on Thursday evening.
According to a source, the NPP Committee members, namely national general secretary (organisation) James Sangma, NPP Kerala State president KT Thomas, NPP Youth Front national president Nicky Nongkhlaw and national general secretary Abhaya Kashyap met people from diverse fields at Hotel Classic Grande from 9am till 12.30 pm Thursday and gathered their various opinions.
Among others senior journalists Pradip Phanjoubam and Paojei Chaoba, Indian Red Cross Society Dr Y Mohen, senior advocate Khaidem Mani, retired judge Aribam Noutuneshwari Devi, social activist Ashang Kasar, social scientists Dhananbir Laishram, associate professors Arambam Noni and Meisnam Nilakanta interacted with the NPP committee members.
Later, the Committee mem bers met five-member teams of organisations at block levels of 15 different constituencies at the party's state office at Naoremthong from 1pm till 3.30pm Thursday.
While some of the representatives expressed support for continuing the alliance with the BJP governments in both the centre and state, others expressed concern over Manipur 's future if the alliance with the state BJP government is continued.
In response, the Committee convenor national general secretary Abhaya Kashyap assured that the party is aware of the restlessness amongst the people and the party workers and as such, appealed for all to stay calm.
Abhaya continued that the findings from the political assessment will be presented before the party national president and also to the national executive of the party.
Party national president and Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma will take a decision on the matter after the by-elections in his home state are over, the convenor informed.
