SC quashes order for re-engaging MDs

Imphal, July 16 2023:
The Supreme Court of India has quashed the state government s order for re-engaging Hijam Shantikumar and Ng Subhachandra as managing directors of Manipur State Power Distribution Company Ltd (MSPDCL) and Manipur State Power Company Ltd.
(MSPCL) respectively.
A division bench of the Su reme Court conducted the earing on Friday and directed the state government to hand over the charge of MDs of MSP -CL and MSPCL to Dr Shailesh Kumar Chourasia, who was previously assigned the same charge by the government, within 24 hours.
Both Ng Subhachandra and Hijam Santikumar had retired from service after reaching superannuation on February 28, 2022, and December 31,2022, respectively.
However, they were re-engaged to the top posts by an order issued by the department of personnel and administrative reforms on July 4, 2023 .
The top court also issued orders to suspend all proceedings, interim orders by single benches, and pending petitions before the Manipur' High Court and Guwahati High Court until the next hearing in the Supreme Court.
The apex court also instructed the state government to complete the process of select ion or appointment of the MDs of MSPCL and MSPDCL before the next court hearing, subject to approval from the Supreme Court.
