Imphal, January 30 2024:
Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) has denounced the threat served to Tangkhul social activist Ashang Kasar in an open letter circulated on social media on January 16 by Kuki-Zo volunteer.
In a release, TMNL president Themaso Tallanao said that the purported letter unnecessarily dragged the Tangkhul Naga tribe in a crisis it has no involvement.
With reference to the open letter warning of dire consequences in case Ashang Kasar is not reprimanded by his Tangkhul brothers, TMNL pointed out that in a vibrant democratic society, a constructive and healthy debate on electronic and social media on current issues is part and parcel of the democratic ethos, where people express their opinions freely without any fear and inhibition.
"Therefore, the Tangkhul Youth Council strongly condemn such act, nor shall we entertain any hate or threats directed towards any Tangkhul Naga individual," the president said, while urging Kuki-Zo to accept their reality/identity and withdraw the letter which has gone viral on social
media networking sites.
