Ukhrul, January 30 2024:
Zingsho Katamnao Long ( ZKL), an apex students organisation of the Eastern Tangkhul students, has strongly condemned 'the kidnapping of Tamreingam Shithung (19 yrs) a student of 2nd Semester, Geography Department of Liberal College, Luwangsangbam, Koirengei' .
A joint press statement by president ZKL Wungnaothan Chithung and general secretary Ngamreiphy Zimik said Tamreingam is a resident of Bungpa Khullen village, Kamjong Sub-Division and is currently residing at Dewlahland, Imphal.
'Tamreingam Shithung was allegedly abducted by two miscreants who wore olive green uniforms and dragged him into an A-Star car while he along with his friend went to apply for a scholarship', said the statement.
As per the statement, the incident happened at around 12 noon on January 29 near the Mother Teresa Charity Home, Mantripukhri.
He was safely rescued by a Police team around 9 pm yesterday.
The student body stated that the kidnapping of innocent students and demanding ransom is uncalled for amid the prevailing volatile situation in the State.
Such incidents may further ignite unnecessary tension and flare-up tensions between the peaceful communities of the State, added the statement.
ZKL appealed to all concerned to refrain from such unlawful activities and cautioned that it will be compelled to take up stringent actions if such incidents are repeated in future.
Further the student body urged the State authorities to take up necessary measures to maintain the law and order situation in the State capital, which has been witnessing a rise in crimes against the innocent civilians.
