AMUCO visits feuding villages

Imphal, September 28 2020: A team of AMUCO led by its president Pheiroijam Nando Luwang and advisor R Yangsosong Koireng visit Aimol Ching-nunghut and Aimol Khunyai villages, Tengnoupal district which were engaged in a bitter clash on September 26.The clash left one Pastor dead and many others wounded.

After talking with leaders of both the villages, the AMUCO team offered to extend all possible help in bringing peace and harmony between the two villages.

A press release issued by AMUCO appealed to all concerned to work collectively and avoid such violent confrontations in future.

Instead of pointing out who is right and who is wrong, one must focus on bringing a solution.

It should be collective responsibility of the State Government, the two neighbouring villages and all other stakeholders to bring a solution it said.

There are some tricky issues behind the violent clash which took place between the two villages over a playground.

That was why, a solution has been eluding the dispute despite several attempts to resolve it at different forums, AMUCO remarked.

The State Government and all the people need to work together so as to bring peace, normalcy and a long lasting solution between the two Aimol villages.

It then appealed to all concerned to stop politicising the issue.

If any land dispute drags on for years, it implies each side have documents to support their claims and sometimes they are backed by powerful groups.

The State Government needs to look deeper to see if this is exactly what is happening between the two Aimol villages.

The State Government needs to take up prompt action and consult leaders of both the villages in order to negotiate a final settlement, AMUCO asserted while pointing out that deployment of security forces would not bring any permanent solution.
