Second day of Destination North East Make Manipur a must visit place: CM to PM

Imphal, September 28 2020: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make Manipur a must visit region in India and spoke about the endowment of rich cultural heritage, diversity, natural beauty vis a vis unexplored tourist potentials in Manipur.

The Chief Minister delivered this statement on the second day of the ongoing Destination North East 2020, a mega online event, with the theme "Emerging Delightful Destinations" .

Biren further informed about the diverse tribes, customs and traditions of Manipur and reflected on the cultural and traditional practices prevalent in the State.

Expressing hope that the Act East Policy will go a long way in developing the North East Region, the Chief Minister said that there is a genuine need to create awareness about the tourism potential in Manipur as this sector provides the largest employment and revenue.

Informing about the various development projects in the pipeline of the Government of Manipur, aimed towards developing tourism, Biren called for exploring different methods which could unlock the full potential of tourism and make it widely inclusive.

Earlier during the programme Prof Biman Kumar Dutta, Member NEC, highlighted the tourism potentials of North East Region, rich biodiversity hotspots, historical and religious places and other important tourist attractions like tea estates, scenic places & historical monuments besides the hospitality of people of the North East Region.

The event also saw the presentation of cultural dances, places of tourist attractions, choirs, State icons, achievers and entrepreneurs of the participating States.

AR Mathing, Miss Manipur delivered the welcome address on behalf of Manipur and special messages were delivered by Dhiraj, international footballer from Manipur and Khangembam Khoni, dancer from the State.

Introduction to fashion designers Asa Kazingmei and Robert Akashang, tea entrepreneurs Elizabeth Yambem of Dweller and Raina Khangembam of Lotus Tea followed.

There were also cultural presentations of dance and music like Lai Haraoba, Pung Cholom and Ras Lila.

The program ended with vote of thanks to the participating State of Manipur by M Iboyaima Meitei, Adviser, Horticulture, NEC.
