Imphal, June 25 2010: An emergency meeting of the representatives of the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union and Editors held today at the Manipur Press Club reaffirmed its earlier decision not to publish statements of the KCP (Lanheiba Meitei) following a fresh threat to the spokesperson of the AMWJU.

The meeting held at 4.30 pm further resolved to suspend all works of the day on coming June 28 and stage a sit-in protest against the frequent challenges to the "Freedom of expression".

In response to the decision of a joint meeting of AMWJU and editors not to publish any statement issued by the KCP (Lanheiba Meitei) until the group offer apology.

The meeting discussed the matter.

But in a sudden development, no sooner had the apology received editor of the Sanaleibak daily A Mobi who is the spokesperson of AMWJU received threat over phone using slang languages.

The meeting also seriously noted that words used by the caller in threatening to kill him by saying 'chaingba insang chahouro' and resolved that the apology letter dispatched by the group was a meaningless one when they again threatened to the spokesperson of the scribes' body and reaffirmed its earlier decision not to published any statement of the group.

The decision will remain unchanged until an agreement is arrived between AMWJU and the group, the meeting resolved, a statement of the AMWJU issued after the meeting said.

AMWJU appointed spokespersons only to informed matters related with the scribes' body from time to time.

He is not responsible for any decision taken by the union.

Decisions of the union are taken by joint meetings of the working journalists and editors.

The Union took the threat on a journalists is like threatening to all journalists community.

The Union needs cooperation from a group which is fighting for the people cause in its normal functioning and scribes discharging duties.

At the same time, AMWJU could not take any decision with regard to the publication of statements of different factions of underground outfits as the body is bound by a code of conduct of its own in coincide with local adjustment.

Keeping this mind, the group to come up to the negotiating table in the larger interest of the people, the statement finally appealed.
