Despite most of his time being devoted to Parliament in the month of August, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has managed to stick to his schedule and come out with the report card of the Union Home Ministry for the month of August 2010, which was presented today before the Nation.
The Home Minister made it a point to remind that three Bills piloted by the Union Home Ministry were passed in Parliament.
The said three Bills included the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Bill, The Land Ports Authority of India Bill and the Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment Bill).

Touching on the efforts made by the Centre to reach out to the armed groups in the North East and engage them in a peace process, the Home Minister said that on August 6, 2010, a tripartite agreement was signed with the KCP (MC), Lallumba faction.
Following this, 114 cadres along with 81 weapons of the said outfit have surrendered, said the Home Minister and added that rehabilitation programmes are being taken up.
Moreover on August 22, 2010, the tripartite SoO involving the Centre, the Government of Manipur and the Kuki armed groups under two umbrella organisations, KNO and UPF, was extended by 45 days, said Chidambaram.
The SoO has been in force since August 22, 2008, he elaborated.
On the recommendations of the Governments of Manipur and Nagaland, the Centre has despatched 12 additional Central Para-Military Forces, including 6 CRPF and 6 BSF for deployment along NH-39 and NH-53 .
Further on August 10, a Committee was constituted to examine various issues related to Chakmas/Hajongs which include their settlement in Arunachal Pradesh and grant of Indian citizenship to the eligible members, added the Home Minister.
