Imphal, September 01 2010:
Though Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution (CAFPD) Department has been issuing the order for sub-allocation of Kerosene every month, the same is not being entertained as there is not enough stock of Kerosene with IOC and the Government has been giving priority to transportation of petrol and diesel only, Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Y Erabot has alleged.
Talking to mediapersons in his office chamber this afternoon, Y Erabot asserted that quantity of Kerosene required in the State for the month of April alone was 2112 kilolitre.
But after the blockade was lifted, Kerosene supply had been almost stopped with the Government giving priority to transportation of Petrol and Diesel.
Kerosene brought to Manipur is taken from NRL.
However, it is not so convenient to lift the Kerosene from NRL at Numaligarh after going all the way to Jiribam from Imphal.
On the contrary, it is more convenient to lift the Kerosene through Imphal-Dimapur road, the Minister pointed out.
Informing that the existing stock of Kerosene in the State is 612 Kilolitre only, the Minister explained that imposition of blockade along the National Highways, law and order problem and shifting of the route for transportation are the main reasons for shortage of Kerosene in the State today.
To overcome the difficulties being faced by the public, at least to some extent, the Department has started mobile sale of Kerosene and the relevant orders for releasing 20 Kilolitres of Kerosene for public districts in all the nine districts and two sub-divisions have already been issued, the Minister added.
