BJP has urged Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to revoke Manipur government's suspension order imposed on Imphal Municipal Council (IMC) for 6 months for effective implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission(JNNURM) in the state.
A day after they raised Manipur's issues in the parliament, former union Minister and Lok Sabha MP Bijoya Chakraborty led a BJP team to submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister and also to the Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy in this regard on Wednesday.
"We''re are demanding immediate revocation of the government order for proper implementation of the JNNURM as per its guideline", L Bashanta,Secretary media affairs of BJP Manipur unit told this reporter over phone from New Delhi.
As per the guideline of the JNNURM,a massive city modernisation scheme in the country is taking place, A state may allocate funds to towns or cities where elected local bodies are in position,he claimed and alleged that the state is trying to misuse the fund provided under scheme.
"As such the implementation of JNNURM in Imphal has to be stopped till the IMC is revived or constituted", the BJP functionary felt.
Centre has reportedly approved Rs 1872 crores for the modernization of Imphal town within 2012 .
Last month,the Congress-led coalition government in Manipur had suspended 27-member IMC having 16 congress members for financial irregularities, abuse of power, maladministration and staggering financial loss of Rs.19.30 lakh a month,based on an enquiry report by a committee constituted by the government.
On Tuesday, BJP's National Spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Vijay raised the issue of re-imposition of blockades on both the highways linking Manipur with rest of the country during Zero hour of the Rajya Sabha.
