Imphal, June 21 2024:
Displaced people staying in the pre-fabricated houses set up in Sajiwa have threatened to return to their villages if the government fails to provide their entitled benefits within a week.
Any unwanted incidents resulting from the same should be the responsibility of the government, Apex Committee of five Victim Villages convenor Koijam Sarat Meitei has cautioned.
In a press meet held at the pre-fabricated house in Sajiwa on Friday, Sarat condemned the reduction of the expenses per-day-per-head from Rs 85 to 60 .
When the matter was brought to the notice of the DC concerned, the displaced people were told to contact the home commissioner, who upon inquiry, said that expenses have been given by the centre and not the state.
For further clarification, the displaced people were told to meet either the Prime Minister Or the home minister.
Questioning how the displaced people are supposed to go and meet the PM or HM, Koijam Sarat decried the treatment meted out to the displaced people staying in the pre-fabricated houses set up in Imphal East.
Urging the authority con cerned to take responsibility as they are supposed to do so, he said that the per-day-per-head expenses already exclude the students staying in boarding.
However, the promise of depositing money in the accounts of these students has not been fulfilled for over three months.
As such, the school authorities have complained about the delay in payment of fees.
Thus, he urged for providing the entitled benefits to the displacedpeo-ple at the earliest failing which they will return to their villages and the government should be held responsible for any consequences.
