Sit-ins flay disarming of VVs, bomb threat to hospital

A sit-in protest was organised by Coordinating Committee of Clubs Organisation and Meira Paibi Lup Keinou Gram Panchayat, in Bishnupur district, at Imoinu Keithel, Keinou on Sunday demanding that authorities concerned or der security forces to abstain from disarming village volunteers and resignation of Manipur ministers and MLAs in case they are not granted permission to meet the Prime Minister and the Union home minister.
Speaking to media persons, Committee member Khangembam Chanu Leimatombi called for halting arrest of village volunteers, disarm them and conduct search operation to harass Meeteis.
Demanding that MLAs who cannot protect the state should resign, she also asserted that MLAs instead of flocking to Delhi under the pretext of impressing central leaders to resolve the conflict perpetrated by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.
During the protest, the agitators held placards and chanted slogans demanding that ministers, MLAs resign if they cannot solve the conflict, not to arrest VVs, halt search operation and disarming of VVs, withdraw central forces from Manipur, etc.
Another sit-in protest organised by Nachou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (NAMPL) at Nachou Luxmi Bazar on Sunday also called for resolving the ethnic conflict and denounced security campaigns to disarm Meetei VVs.
Meanwhile, Meira Paibis of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai and staff of Hillside View Hospital staged a sit-in protest on Sunday, condemning the placement of a bomb by unknown miscreants at the hospital.
Speaking on the sidelines, Hospital MS Dr RK Joymati recounted that the bomb was discovered wrapped in a polythene bag at the hospital's entrance by a staff member around 3pm Saturday.
At first, the staff assumed that the bag was left behind by one of the patients.
However, on opening the bag, they found a bomb inside and immediately contacted the police who safely retrieved the bomb afterwards.
Informing that many women awaiting delivery undergo treatment at the hospital, she said that hospitals should never be targeted during any armed conflict and urged all concerned not to repeat such acts in the future, adding that any misunderstandings can be resolved through peaceful talks.
