Imphal, May 23 2024:
Soon after the Special Judge NIA, Imphal West, disposed of the application filed by government of Manipur to dismiss the bail granted to Mark Thangmang Haokip, the state government filed a petition in the High Court of Manipur.
Subsequently, the court reserved judgment and order on the case.
The bail order remains pending until the case judgment is delivered.
Two petitions from the state government seeking dismissal of Mark Haokip's bail were heard in the High Court Wednesday and maintained status quo until Thursday.
The proceedings on Thursday, reserved the bail order until the case judgment is announced.
In this connection, the Joint Secretary (Home), Manipur has instructed the Inspector General of police (Prison), Imphal and SP Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa to maintain status quo of the judgment and order until pronouncement of the final order.
Mark Thangmang Haokip was arrested from Kishangarh, New Delhi on May 24, 2022, on the charge of hatching conspiracy to wage war against the government of India by identifying himself as the president of a 'separatist outfit' Government of People's Democratic Republic of Kukiland.
He, however, was granted bail on March 27, 2023 on furnishing a PR bond amounting Rs 2 lakh with two sureties of the same amount.
Challenging the bail order, the government filed the application seeking the court to cancel or modify the order.
