Violence continues in Kangpokpi district

Violence in the form of attacks, killings and arsons continue in different villages under Kangpokpi district even after Union home minister appealed for peace.
Before the arrival of Amit Shah on May 29 evening, many villages were attacked by the suspected Meitei radical groups in Kangpokpi and Churachandpur districts.
Even when the Union home minister was meeting people at Kangpokpi, many more Kuki villages in the foothills of Kangpok-pi district were attacked and torched.
Kuki villages under Saikul sub-division in Kangpokpi district namely L Chayang (70 houses), S Phailengkot (72), Chingdai Khullen (47), C Zoulen (35), Thingjang (30), Lhanghoi (15) and Moljang village (three houses) were reduced to ashes by Meitei people on May 31.According to villagers of C Zoulen, thou-sands of Meira Paibi volunteers blocked the Gorkha Regiment stationed at UNACO school, Chanung and then allowed Meitei radical groups to attack the village.
Just before Amit Shah left the state for Delhi on June 1, the alleged Meitei radical groups attacked two Kuki villages in Kangpokpi and Kamjong districts namely N Mollen and T Natjang.
Two persons were killed and two others were injured in the attack.
One of the escaped villagers of N Mollen village said that people numbering around 400/500 came at about 4.30 am and attacked villagers during which two persons namely Thangkholun Haokip, 30 son of Tongmang Haokip and Jangminthang Haokip, 25 son of Ngulkholun Haokip sustained bullet injuries while two others were also killed in the same attack.
Similarly, T Natjang vil-lage which has around 30 houses under Kasom Khu-llen police station in Kam-jong district was also burnt down allegedly by Meitei radical groups.
Meanwhile, the Meitei radical groups continued their attack till Friday de-spite the Union home min-ister's strong appeal to bring peace.
Meitei radical group allegedly attacked N Son-glung and Bethel villages in Kangchup Geljang sub-di-vision in Kangpokpi district from early morning till 7pm.Many villagers were in-jured in the attack but ca-sualty number could not be ascertained till the filing of this report.
