Memorial complex proposed at Jiri

Imphal, September 23 2026: To honour 12 individuals who were killed in Jiribam in 2024, a memorial complex is proposed to be constructed at Ningshingkhul, Jiribam.

In this regard, the Managing Committee of the Victims Memorial Complex has appealed to individuals, organisations, institutions and well-wishers from Manipur and beyond to extend financial support for the construction of the memorial.

According to the managing committee, late Soibam Saratkumar Singh was killed while working in his paddy field, while late Yurembam Kulendra Singh was killed after armed assailants entered his residence.

The body of late Brah-macharimayum Lakhiku- mar Sharma was found after he went missing, while late Laishram Baren Meitei and late Maibam Kesho Shop were burnt alive inside a shop at Jakuradhor Karong, it said.

In another incident, six civilians, including three minors- Laishram Lamnganba, Laishram Chingkheinganba, Telem Thajamanbi, Laishram Heitonbi, Telem Thoibi and Yurembam Rani were abducted and later found dead after their bodies were thrown into the Barak River, the committee said.

Late Kh Athouba sacrificed his life while defending Jiribam during the peak of the conflict, it added.

Addressing the media at the Manipur Press Club today, Lamabam Romen said that an event would be held at Ningshingkhul to honour the 12 victims, whose bodies were laid to rest there.

He said that they decided to construct the memorial complex to provide a permanent place of remembrance for the 12 victims.
