Sit-in demands NRC with 1951 as base year

Imphal, September 23 2026: Demanding updation of NRC with 1951 as base year before holding Census, clubs and Meira Paibis of Patsoi Part-I and II staged a sit-in protest on the roadside along Patsoi Part-I main road today.

Speaking to the media, Wahengbam Nini, assistant secretary of Patsoi Part-I Women Development Association, said implementation of NRC with 1951 as base year followed by Census is a long standing demand of the people of Manipur.

She said clubs and Meira Paibis from various localities have extended full support to the movement.

In the prevailing unrest, the Census must not be conducted without first updating NRC.

The Government should act on the people's demand for NRC with 1951 as the base year, she added.
