Imphal, June 29 2024:
Apunba Meitei Ema Lup (AMELUP) will be submitting a four-point memorandum regarding the prevailing conflict in the state, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club, here, on Saturday, AMELUP convenor Leimapokpam Rebati Chanu informed that the memorandum will be faxed directly to the PM's office.
The four points in the memorandum include immediate implementation of National Registrar of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur so as to identify the real citizens and deport illegal immigrants; withdrawal of the Suspension of Operation (SoO) signed with the Kuki militant groups; removing the phrase "any Kuki tribe" which is allowing basically any Kuki tribe to demand ST status and benefits; and putting an end to the attempt being made to arrest or harass the village volunteers who are merely defending their motherland against external aggression.
The state government should allow them to return home once the conflict ends, she said, while urging all for collective efforts to bring an end to the conflict once and for all.
