Public meet chides Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists

Thoubal, October 28 2023: Peace, Unity and Integrity Committee, Angtha (PUICA) and Angtha Meira Paibi jointly organised a public meeting under the theme 'Down with Kuki Narco-Terrorism for Peace in Manipur' at EYO ground, Yairipok Angtha Mamang Sagolthong Leikai in Imphal East district on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by RPI (Athawale) national secretary and social activist Maheshwar Thounaojam as chief guest and PUICA chairman & Zilla Parishad Imphal East former adhyaksha Konthoujam Tombi Singh as president, while retired District and Sessions Judge Aribam Noutuneshwori Devi, PUICA vice-chairman & Angtha Gram Panchayat caretaker pradhan Thiyam Manihal, ward members Konthoujam Thambal Devi, Thiyam Surjit, Konthoujam Kananbala Devi and Loitongbam Tunanbi Devi were present as guests of honour.

During the meeting, floral tributes were paid to the photos of those who lost their lives in the present conflict and a two-minute silence was observed in honour of the departed souls.

Speaking at the meeting, Maheshwar Thounaojam contended that continuation of MLR & LR Act, 1960 is great injustice towards the indigenous Meetei community as it limits their settlement to only 8 per cent of the total geographical area of Manipur.

It is unfortunate that no action has been taken against Kuki militant groups despite violating the SoO agreement by attacking innocent Meetei civilians.

Meetei are a peaceful and harmonious community which is why for the past thousands of years various communities have lived together in Manipur under the rule of Meetei kings, he emphasised.

Maheshwar also claimed that the present conflict has been instigated by Chin- Kuki narco terrorists after years of planning.

This attack by Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists migrated from neighbouring country is not only a challenge to Manipur but also to the national security, hence, everything should be done to oust them from the state, he emphasised.

Maheshwar further called for unity, identifying the enemy, imprisonment of people demanding separate administration, barring the entry of 10 Kuki MLAs into Manipur and for denizens of state to live together without division of hill and valley.

The meeting also resolved to oppose transferring of cases to Guwahati, Assam; work for unity of Meeteis; holding of weekly meeting of Angtha villagers and defeating Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists.

Earlier, a welcome gate constructed at Imphal Yairipok Ngarian road by PUICA was inaugurated.
