Manipuri Poetry Day-2023 observed

Imphal, October 28 2023:
Fiction and Poetry Club, Manipur and JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal jointly observed Manipuri Poetry Day-2023 at the hall of the Academy, here, on Saturday.
The Mahakabi Anganghal Seireng Mana-2023 was also presented to renowned author Arambam Memchoubi on the occasion.
The observance was attended by Manipur University of Culture (MUC) dean Prof Nahakpam Aruna as chief guest, Fiction and Poetry Club president Dr Heisnam Budhichandra as president, while JNM Dance Academy director P Bilash and Sahitya Akademi awardee Dr Sagolsem Lanchenba were present as guests of honour.
In connection with the observance, 'Saktam Machu Machu', a book penned by Polem Nabachandra Singh was released.
Renowned poets Yengkhom Bihari of Kakching, IS Kangjam of Imphal and Khangembam Ibeton Devi of Bishnupur were also honoured on the occasion.
In her speech, Prof Aruna said that the Manipuri Poetry Day is being observed every year in the month of Mera in view of the growing love for poetry amongst the present generation.
She continued that most people use social media as we are living in a digital world and also due to globalisation, compared to the time when we used to read books.
As such, we need to re cultivate such habits again, she asserted.
Later, a poetry recitation session was conducted, divided into two sessions.
The first session was chaired Prof Polem Nabachandra, where around 10 poets recited their respective poems.
The second session was chaired by Chongtham Subadani and participated by two poets.
Writers' Association Kakching also observed Manipuri Poetry Day-2023 at the auditorium of Representative of Lois (RoL) in Kakching Chumnang Leikai on Saturday.
The Manipuri edition of Shree Krishna Karnamntra, translated by Writers' Association president Pukhrambam Nimai and published by Dr Chandam Ibomcha of Malom Tuliyaima was also released to mark the occasion.
Association president Pukhrambam Nimai and South East Manipur College, Komlathabi assistant professor Kshetrimayum Birohini Devi attended the event as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
During the observance, the gathering offered floral tributes to the portrait of famed author Dr Kamal.
Many authors also recited their respective poems on the occasion.
Association president Nimai Pukhramba spoke on the significance of the observance and secretary Birmangal Moirangthem also gave a speech, while Divine Life Society, Machin Manao Sevashram Kakching president and retired CMO Dr Nongmaithem Nabakishwar shared his thoughts on the book.
