Imphal, October 28 2023:
Another body Meitei Ereicha Kanba Athouba Salai Taret (MEKAST) has set November 5 as the deadline to trace the mortal remains of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi who presumably have been killed by Kuki militants and warned of agitations if the demand is not entertained.
Earlier, Lukmai Sellup had also served a similar deadline to the Government.
Notably, the two students went missing on July 6 and their photos - one in captivity with two armed men with their guns clearly visible in the background and the another where their bodies are seen slumped on the ground, surfaced online on September 25 and it triggered massive protests across the valley districts of Manipur.
CBI has so far arrested five suspects in connection with the case but the bodies still are nowhere to be found.
Speaking to the media at Manipur Press Club today, MESKAT vice president Gurumayum Kadamtala said that they along with the JAC formed in connection with the murder of the two students will launch different forms of agitation if the Government fails to trace and hand over the mortal remains by November 5 .
She asked why the CBI still couldn't get any lead on where the mortal remains of the two students could be even after arresting five accused so many days back.
Saying that the murder of the two innocent students by Kuki militants was heart-rending, Kadamtala appealed to the Government and all relevant authorities to hand the mortal remains of Hemanjit and Linthoingambi to their respect families and let them at least perform the last rites of their beloved.
