Preservation of customs and traditions stressed

In addition to upholding territorial integrity, the people of, Manipur should unitedly protect and preserve culture and traditions through which we can only protect ourselves, said Ajit Das, who is director of Ranganiketan, International Centre for Manipur Art and Culture.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2-day 30th Guru Kirtana Seva and Festival of Ariba Pala and Manohar Sai organised by Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy at its Kwakeithel Nganap-pithong office on Saturday, Ajit Das stressed the need for safeguarding the invaluable assets bestowed by the forefathers as culture and traditions inherited from the past generations are not to be found in other, parts of the world.
He further said that the present conflict in the state should not be seen as a war related to the territorial integrity of Manipur and fought at the periphery or border.
The battle has been going on for the last 43 years within Manipur which should be stopped through reconciliation.
Guru Khwairakpam Leibakmacha Singh Mana was conferred to Pung Yeiba (drum artiste) Hanjaba Sapam Kullabi while the Oja Khwairakpam Wangkhei Singh Mana was handed over to Ningombam Madhabi Devi on the occasion.
Presided over by writer Laishram Memo, the function was also attended by LEIKOL president Kshetrimayum Subadani as guest of honour.
Manoharsai Ashram, Ningthem Pukhri Mapal presented Manohar performance on the occasion.
