Imphal, May 20 2024:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Birmangol College Council Unit has halted the admission process of the college over shortage of teachers for several subjects, while cautioning that the principal would be held responsible for any unwanted consequences.
Addressing the media at the College on Monday afternoon, Council's education secretary A Nandeshwori said that the way of imparting education is degrading day-by-day.
While the student intake is increased during admission time, there are barely any teachers available to teach them.
This, in turn, is leading to spurt in use of unfair means during examination, she stated.
While pointing out that improved education system is intrinsically linked to building a better generation for a progressive society, the secretary reasoned that the on-going admission process at Birmangol College has been halted with immediate effect owing to shortage of teachers for the required subjects.
If the principal decides to go ahead with the admission process, any consequences arising from the same would be the responsibility of both the principal and the head of departments, she cautioned.
DESAM Unit Council Liberal College has also halted the admission process for the departments of Environment Study and Hindi of the College.
In a press meet held at the College in Luwangsangbam on Monday afternoon, Council secretary (organisation and co-ordination) E Bobin highlighted the students' dissatisfaction with the higher education system of the state.
He continued that colleges in the state seem to have no authority, with some colleges having excess teachers and others lacking the numbers, thereby increasing the usage unfair means during semester examinations.
He continued that with regard to Liberal College, 10 of the 22 departments have excess teachers, while the Environmental Studyand Hindi departments are bereft of requisite number of teachers.
As such, he urged for posting the excess teachers to other colleges facing shortage and to address the shortage of teachers of the two departments before the start of the academic session.
