Imphal, May 03 2024:
Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims (CoPMeV) chairman Leishangthem Inaocha has urged the government to deport illegal foreigners from Myanmar for an indigenous-exclusive Manipur.
On Friday, Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims (CoPMeV) organised a sit-in protest on the theme of 'Kuki Invasion on Indigenous People of Manipur' at the temporary market of Singjamei.
During the sit-in, residents of relief camps held placards inscribed slogans such as "Withdraw SoO with Kuki militants at the earliest", "Implement NRC", "Deport illegal immigrants", and "Allow displaced people to return to their homes".
Speaking on the sidelines, Inaocha pointed out that as the displaced people have been staying in the relief camps for a year now authorities concerned should strive to resolve the conflict at the earliest and allow the people to return home, while also making long term arrangements for their future survival.
Blaming the bystander attitude of the authorities towards the people which led to the present situation in Manipur, he urged for implementing NRC to drive away the illegal immigrants from Myanmar who have forced the indigenous people of the state to become refugees in their own land.
He further urged for granting ST status to the Meetei community and establishing Manipur as an indigenous-only state.
Meanwhile, People Protection Committee (PPC), Konthoujam and Women Wing jointly observed condolence service for all Who have died in the one-year long conflict, at the premises of Konthoujam Ima Lairembi on Friday.
In a release, PPC Konthoujam secretary Ibochouba Konthoujam informed that the gathering prayed for the departed souls to rest in peace, and for all those injured, affected or displaced by the violence.
