Imphal, June 30 2024:
Challengers Youth of Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency (CYKAC) and Peace and Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) called upon the political class to refrain from playing petty games of politics when the state is passing through a crucial phase of existential threat.
Addressing a press meet at Lainingthou Puthiba community Kall, Yumnam Khunou on Sunday, CYKAC president James Leishangthem said that village volunteers are striving to defend the existential threat to the state, its identity and territorial integrity with some already laying down their lives and many more injured.
Khundrakpam AC is one of the worst effected zones in the crisis with nearly 400 Meetei houses nearby Kuki villages burnt and over 1000 displaced people taking refuge in relief camps.
Stating that denizens of the constituency have lost their lives and dozens injured so far, president James said everybody knows that root cause of the conflict is due to the government's War on Drugs campaign and crackdown on illegal encroachment in forest areas and illegal immigrants.
The 10 Kuki MLAs are bluntly opposing such campaigns of the government and demanding separate administration as well as replacement of chief minister N Biren, who is resolute in implementing NRC and firmly against separate administration.
In such situation, reports of replacing the chief minister are regretfully doing the round as endeavouring to replace the CM is akin to endorsing demand of the Kukis, he reminded and wondered whether those yearning for resignation of the CM want to bring President's Rule in the state.
The political game at play amid such a critical juncture must be handiwork of some politicians for their personal interest and have no concern about fate of the village volunteers; the CYKAC president maintained.
Expressing their stand on the matter, he said that they would support the decision of the village volunteers in this regard whether it is in favour or against the incumbent CM.
Chipping in, PDCC president L Joy said that replacing the CM at this moment would be a huge disadvantage for the state.
The community defending the identity and territorial integrity of the state would lose their strength in the event of imposing President's Rule, he said and demanded all concerned to refrain from pursuing the matter of replacing the CM.
