Imphal, June 11 2024:
Thawai Mirel convener Thongam Dara has said that the organisation is ready to visit Jiribam and help those staying in relief camps after their houses were torched by Kuki militants.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Dara said that the violence erupted on May 3, 2023 continues unabated as Kuki narco-terrorists have been relentlessly targeting Meetei villagers and torching their houses.
Fresh attack is being carried out in Jiribam district, where more than 70 Meetei houses have been either destroyed or torched, he pointed out, and strongly condemned the attack.
He informed that Thawai Mirel has made preparation to visit Jiribam either from Silchar or from Tripura and help those staying in the relief camps.
According to Thongam Dara, the ambush laid by Kuki narco-terrorists on the CM's advance security convoy en-route to Jiribam on Monday was highly condemnable.
He questioned the whereabouts of other cabinet ministers and ministers when the chief minister was in New Delhi to take part in the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and what will happen to the state if the CM is out of station for a month or so.
Thawai Mirel co convener Paonam Sana-hanbi also told media persons that it is not the sole responsibility of chief minister N Biren Singh to save Jiribam from the hands of Kuki narco-terrorists.
All the 50 MLAs should shoulder the same responsibility though 10 Kuki MLAs have stuck to their separate administration demand.
She also said that time has come for raising a collective voice to pressurise the 50 MLAs to visit Jiribam immediately.
She also demanded immediate deployment of additional security forces in Jiribam as also medical teams and ambulances.
