Jiribam, May 23 2024:
All Jiribam Road Transport and Drivers' Union (AJRTDU) has urged truck drivers to use the parking lots reserved for trucks instead of leaving their vehicles on the road side and at petrol pumps.
Addressing the media at its office, here, on Thursday, union president N Sadananda clarified over the recent issue regarding the lack of parking' space for trucks raised by some drivers and stated that a parking space for trucks having toilet facilities, had already been established between Leingangpokpi police gate and Guiarthol.
Additionally, the Union also developed two parking spaces along the highway for the convenience of drivers.
Earlier, the Union appealed to truckers to use these designated parking spaces, including the area in Sorok Atingbi Kamaranga, where a signboard has been installed.
Unfortunately, many drivers, understandably eager to be close to the police station, park their trucks along the highway, including the dusty location in Leingangpokpi, while ignoring the reserved parking areas.
Consequently, the union allowed bullet tankers to park in the reserved spaces lying unused, the president explained.
Despite the situation, drivers can use the parking space near the Gularthol turning, and FCI trucks in the open field near the railway track, said Sadananda who also lamented that some truckers made false claim of paucity of parking space.
He urged drivers to contact the, union in case of any issues, adding that the Union has been providing assistance to drivers whenever they face problems.
Moreover, the Union often helps trucks with technical issues along the highway by buying replacement spare parts from either Jiribam or Silchar and delivering them to trucks stranded in the middle of the hilly areas, he maintained.
Sadananda further appealed to drivers to refrain from parking their trucks near petrol pumps or along the road in Jiri area, stating that the roads are narrow, and parking trucks there causes inconvenience to commuters.
