DESAM plans quiz, tree plantation competitions

In connection with the observance of World Environment Day, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) would be organising competitions on written quiz and tree plantation.
In a release, DESAM secretary (health and environment) Huidrom Johnson Meitei informed that the written quiz competition would be held on June 2 in Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishhupur, Thoubal, Kakching and Jiribam districts in three categories i.e Class V-VII (Category A), Class VIII-IX (Category B) and Class XIXII (Category C) .
Interested students may visit DESAM district council office, head office or contact 8257974756 (head office), 6909994016 Imphal-West), 8974380396 (Imphal East), 9362093091 (Bishnupur), 7005570228 (Kakching), 8414041413 (Thoubal) for forms and other relevant details.
Johnson pointed out that state government and several organisations including DESAM observe World Environment Day every year and planted trees.
However, as no effective steps have been initiated so far to ensure maturity of the trees, the government should chalk up maintenance mechanism to make the efforts bear fruit, he stressed.
The competition 'Plant a tree, grow a tree' will be held at schools and colleges and the winners declared on the next World Environment Day.
The competitors (institutions) should plant tree saplings within June 2-5 and submit photographs of the plantation with geo tags.
Calling upon the students to shoulder the responsibility for growth the trees planted by the institution, he urged interested educational institution to contact district council or head office for further information.
