DLOs made to experience 'real' Longpi

Tamenglong, April 18 2013:
For the first time, the District Administration of Tamenglong on Tuesday organized a District Level Officers' (DLO) meeting at Longpi village under Nungba Sub- Division.
Longpi village lies to the western side some 27 km from Nungba HQs.
The condition of the road leading to Longpi village is pathetic to be described.
The Longpi area has 22 villages and Longpi village alone has 54 households.
There is no electricity, no Govt.quarter, PHC center.
etc.
The village has no modern facilities at all.
On the way to Longpi village, C.Arthur W, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong was given a warm welcome along with presentation of dance by Tazei Kaiphun part III women folks.
From there, the DLOs proceeded to Longpi Village through the tough road and jungle with rain making it hard for all of them.

Before the commencement of the meeting, DLOs went to inspect the Longpi village and much to their surprise, they found out that the village authority had misused fund amounting to Rs.15 lakhs which had been sanctioned for construction of a community hall.
Even though no community hall had ever come up, the village authority had also reportedly taken another Rs.5 lakhs for repairing of the said community hall this year.
The DLOs meeting started at 4:30 pm with welcome address by Kailal Gangte, Chairman of Longpi Village Authority, who requested the Deputy Commissioner to repair the pathetic road at the earliest and construct a mini inspection bungalow (IB) for Longpi area.
Sajang Kipgen, Secretary of Longpi Village Authority, also requested the DC Tamenglong for setting up a Longpi Guest House at Numgba for the convenience of the people.
ADC member Haokholal Singon conveyed his warm welcome to the DC and his team for coming all the way to Longpi and requested them to take up any necessary projects for the development of the village and its people.
C Arthur W, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong assured to construct an IB at an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakhs in the near future.
He said that there is no sufficient fund for repairing of the Longpi road at present but he will do whatever he can for the repairing of the road.
The DC also noted the low standard of school in the village and urged the principal to uplift the school.
He asked all the DLOs to let them know what they can do from their side.
.CArthur also encouraged the villagers to take up terrace farming.
" I am not here to check your fault but I am here to help you'', C Arthur W IAS, DC Tamenglong added.
Vidhya Sankar, Commandant of 13th Assam Rifles, was also present on the occasion and assured that Assam Rifles would extend every possible assistance for the welfare of the villagers.
