Sahir's death: JAC demands culprits' arrest within 48 hrs

The Joint Action Committee against the Brutal Killing of Sangomsumpham Sahir alias Sana has demanded arrest of the culprits involved in the killing of driver Sahir within 48 hours.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here Monday, JAC convenor Md Moyamayum Rafi Khan recounted that on October 19 around 9am, two siblings from Takhel identified as Ibemcha w/o Md Firoz Khan and Victoria, engaged Sahir s/o (L) Md Abdur Rahim of Kshetri Bengoon Awang Leikai and one Md Abir Khan of Sora presently residing in a rented quarter at Golapati Hatta, for transporting a cow from one of their relatives, Nganbi w/o Thounaojam Nanao of Takhel, Madilok.
After arriving at Nganbi's house, Nganbi and Victoria got into a heated exchange.
The locals soon descended on the four people (Sahir, Abir, Ibemcha and Victoria), blindfolded them and took them to a location, where they brutally thrashed the four on charges of trying to take a cow for a particular community.
Personnel of Lamlai PS arrived at the spot and rescued the four.
The police took them to Sawombung PC for treatment and the four were later referred to JNIMS hospital at around 6.30pm.However, they were again referred to Raj Medicity from JNIMS on October 19.Unfortunately, Sahir succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon.
Questioning why the police did not lodge a sou-moto case in the incident, Rafi demanded the government to arrest the culprits involved within 48 hours and ensure justice is served.
He further warned the dead body will not be claimed and also of staging intense agitations with like minded CSOs, clubs, organisations and Meira Paibi until the demands are fulfilled.
Any unwanted consequences resulting from the same will the responsibility of the government and the authorities concerned.
Earlier, the JAC held a public meeting at ABA community hall in Kshetri Mayai Leikai, wherein various resolutions were adopted.
The resolutions included arrest of the culprits within 48 hours to ensure justice is served, failing which the body will not be claimed; strict action or service termination of the police personnel who did not register sou moto case in the incident and neglected their duty; handing over the case either to CBI or NIA; staging of sit-in protests and appealing to all to support the JAC's activities.
