Imphal, June 03 2025:
Union Home secretary Govind Mohan concluded a two-day official visit to the state on Tuesday after reviewing the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and holding high-level meetings on border, and law and order issues.
On Tuesday, Mohan visited Ngahmun relief camp in Kangpokpi district, where he distributed recognition certificates and school bags to students who passed Class 10 and 12, handed out CMHT and Ayushman Bharat health cards to newly enrolled IDPs, and distributed stationery items to school-going children.
As the IDPs in Kangpokpi district expressed the need for better healthcare services and designation of local examination centres, the home secretary assured them that resettlement plans were being prepared in coordination with district administration and that livelihood schemes were being formulated to ensure economic dignity and sustainability for displaced families.
Later in the day, Mohan visited the relief camp set up at the Girls' Hostel of Christian Medical Hospital, Dewlahland in Imphal East district, where IDPs from Moreh and Serou are staying.
Displaced persons there apprised the visiting central official about their desire to return home and requested enhanced medical and educational facilities.
Mohan reiterated that individual grievances should be addressed through the DCs concerned.
He also distributed hygiene kits to those staying in the camp.
Home secretary Mohan, accompanied by Intelligence Bureau (IB) director Tapan Kumar Deka, arrived here on June 2 and began his engagements in Churachandpur district, where he visited Dorcas Veng relief camp in Churachandpur sub-division and Sadhbhavna Mandap relief camp in Tuibong sub-division.
He interacted with displaced persons, listened to their concerns, distributed relief materials, and felicitated students from the camps who recently passed Class 10 and 12 examinations.
Later the same day, he visited the relief camp at Me-kola Gulap Higher Secondary School in Imphal West, which houses IDPs primarily from Churachandpur.
The displaced families voiced their concerns about security during return to their native places and proposed construction of pre-fabricated houses on government land.
They also raised issues related to medical expenses not covered under the Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) scheme.
Mohan urged them to submit their specific grievances to the DC concerned for prompt redressal.
He also distributed toys to children at the camp.
A high-level review meeting was later held at Raj Bhavan to assess the relief and rehabilitation operations for IDPs, the status of Indo-Myanmar border fencing, and the prevailing law and order situation in the state.
"Govind Mohan s visit reaffirmed the Union government's commitment to ensure the welfare, security, and rehabilitation of all Internally Displaced Persons in Manipur, and to support the state government in restoring normalcy and developmental momentum," said an official.
The Union Home Secretary also discussed ongoing fencing work along the India-Myanmar border and the overall law and order situation in the state during a review meeting with top civil, army, para-military and security officials.
"The review meeting deliberated the progress of the border fencing along the International Border and the law and order situation in the state.
Maintenance of public order and developmental efforts were the highlights of these meetings," informed the official.
