Senapati, June 30 2024:
While stating that Senapati is a peaceful district in-spite of the communal unrest persisting for more than a year, Naga People's Organisation (NPO) has categorically restricted combing operations in and around the district.
In a press release issued by its Information & Publicity Wing on Sunday, NPO informed that in its presidential meeting, resolution was adopted not to allow any form of military search operations by Army, CRPF, Manipur Rifles or Police in the district.
It stated that the district has been so far a peaceful zone as the Nagas has positioned to be neutral in the present conflict between the Meitei and the Ku-ki-Zo communities.
Any actor trying to drag in the people of the district shall be construed as inviting the grudge of the people, it stated.
It continued that the present trend of search operations by Army, CRPF, Manipur Rifles or Police in and around villages of the district is uncalled for.
"Senapati district is the gateway of Manipur.
The people of the district has walked extra miles to support all communities from feeling unwanted by providing all logistical support so as to make every section of the society feel safe and at home.
As such, any military operation in a peaceful district is requested to be avoided as it could create a war-like situation with military built-up, not to mention the operations would give a fear psychosis to the public and disturb the congenial atmosphere," it remarked.
NPO further appealed to all village chairmen/secretaries to be mindful of the activities carried out by various agencies which would detrimental for a peaceful and progressive society.
Any failure in complying with the order may compel the organisation to take up any plan of agitation for which the state government, district administration and military forces would be responsible, it cautioned.
