Plan in pipeline for preservation of Moirang Kangleirol artefacts, sites

A plan is in the pipeline to preserve and promote historical sites including Moirang Konung linked to Moirang Kangleirol, said MLA Thongam Shanti today.
The Moirang AC MLA was attending the "2nd Khamba-Thoibi Literary Award 2023" ceremony at Manipur Press Club, Imphal when he made the announcement.
The 2nd Khamba-Thoibi Literary Award 2023 was given to Cha Khomei for his novel "Sajigi Leibakta" .
The award is given by Quad Writers, Moirang.
Two books titled "Toubul Diary" and "Nangna Chatkhiba Lambida" penned by Salam Tomba were also released at the event.
At the award ceremony, MLA Th Shanti said Moirang Kangleirol records and defines the ancient civilization, its rich history and culture.
He mentioned several places of historical and cultural importance like the Moirang Konung, an ancient market and plots where houses of Nongban and Khamba once believed to have stood.
Shanti informed that a monolith associated with "Kabui Salang Maiba" has been damaged in the current conflict (between Meiteis and Kukis) .
He said there is a plan to develop and preserve all sites and artifacts linked to Moirang Kangleirol.
The MLA said he has discussed the development plan with the Chief Minister.
Encouraging writers, he said songs and literature alike can influence and instill in people a strong sense of patriotism.
Writers through their works can steer people and society to the right direction, he said.
He identified the Government's War on Drugs and poppy cultivation as a cause for the current crisis.
Manipur has a population of few lakhs, and of these, around 1.8 lakhs have fallen victims of drug abuse.
It is necessary and important to save youths from the jaws of drugs, he added.
Influx of illegal immigrants and their involvement in clearing of reserved forests and poppy cultivation is a serious concern that needs to be addressed urgently, said the MLA.
Manipuri Literary Society Imphal president Nongmaithem Kirankumar, Sahitya Akademi Awardee Dr Sagolshem Lanchenba Meetei and Dr Thingbaijam Swarankumar attended the event as president and guests of honour.
