Naga youths offer to escort stranded trucks

Imphal, June 21 2024:
The economic blockade called by Kuki-Zo CSOs of Jiribam and Tamenglong along Imphal-Jiribam highway has been called off after a memorandum of understanding was signed with Tamenglong police, Assam Rifles and CRPF today.
According to the MoU, the district police concerned of Tamenlong/Jiribam and other security forces deployed in both the districts would ensure safety and movement of essential commodities and commercial vehicles to Kuki-Zo communities of Jiribam and Tamenglong including medical facilities etc.
The district police concerned shall make all necessary efforts to book and punish as per law the culprits involved in the abduction of Langgel Muangpu s/o Langgel Lualal of Vengnom, Dibong Khunou, Jiribam.

The MoU also said that a joint naka checkpoint would be established near Phaitol village for deployment of both Central and State forces.
The fourth and final point of the MoU said that the district police of Jiribam and Tamenglong and Central forces should ensure strict action against any radical elements and miscreants engaged in intimidation of public and commercial business.
The MoU was signed by Kuki Inpi (Jiri, Tamenglong & Noney) president Jang-minthang Singson, Kuki Inpi Women Wing (Jiri, Tamenglong and Noney) president Boicy Singson, KSO (Jiri and Tamenglong) president Paominthang Hao-kip, Tamenglong SP Lanmi- yo Luikham, 39 AR Jiribam Commandant Col Akash Kumar and 27 Bn, CRPF 2IC Arun Kumar Singh.
Meanwhile, a large number of Rongmei youths from villages settled along Imphal-Jiribam highway came to Jiribam today and offered to escort the stran-ded trucks and tankers till Imphal.
Categorically stating that no one should impose any kind of blockade on Imphal-Jiribam highway, the Naga youths further assured that they would ensure no harm comes to drivers and helpers on their journey from Jiribam to Imphal.
Even though trucks loaded with other essential commodities have started moving this evening, oil tankers and LPG bullets were reluctant to move on the highway at night as it was already quite late when the Naga youth arrived at Jiribam.
It is said that the oil tankers and the LPG bullets are planning to leave Jiribam for Imphal on Saturday.
