Summer school on statistical methods underway

Manipur University, Department of Statistics observed the National Statistics Day 2024 alongside the launch programme of 'Summer School on Statistical Methods' at the court hall of the University, here, on Friday.
The summer school, which is being organised under the theme 'Use of data for decision making', will continue till July 4.MU School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences dean Prof Sumitra Phanjoubam, head of Department of Statistics Prof S Opendra, Prof Kh Kumarchand of Department of Statistics, Prof Ng Nimai of Department of Physics and former head of RIMS Department of Biostatics Prof RK Narendra attended the event as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, MU Department of Statistics associate professor Kshetrimayum Anand highlighted the contribution of renowned statistician and scientist PC Mahalanobis and how the nation honours his contribution by observing National Statistics Day on his birth anniversary every year.
He also spoke on the importance of statistics in every aspect of modern life, be it in life science, business, Commerce, marketing of any other sector.
IT has become one of the most important subjects in today's world, he said, while stressing the significance of observing the day.
