Ukhrul, November 29 2023:
Ukhrul District BJP has constituted a Monitoring Committee on Development with former deputy speaker MK Preshow A Shimray as convenor and ex-BJP MLA candidates Hopingson A Shimray and Somatai Shaiza as co-convenors.
The new committee was formed during an emergency meeting of Ukhrul District BJP held in Ukhrul town on Wednesday.
Preshow Shimray, who is also the BJP state spokesperson, announced the development while briefing the media after the party's meeting held at 3-In-l Hotel, Phungreitang.
Speaking to the media, Shimray informed that the party's meeting unanimously adopted different resolutions to pursue meaningful development of both Ukhrul and Kamjong districts under the present BJP-led government.
The BJP government in the state has been working for the development of the two districts and has initiated various development projects since the last 6 years, Shimray said, crediting CM Biren Singh for the same.
According to Shimray, the party unit in the district is committed to pursue meaningful development and is constantly monitoring all development projects being taken up in the districts.
He said that the proposed project for making Ukhrul district as the state's summer capital is among the party's top priorities.
Similarly, the party has laid focus on the construction of Yaingangpokpi to Finch Corner that has been dragging for a long time.
"With the intervention of our party since last year, the work is now showing progress and we are now targeting March/April next year for its completion," he said.
He continued that all development funds allocated for Ukhrul and Kamjong districts must be utilised for the good of the people, and that the party is there to ensure timely completion of all projects.
As also resolved in our meeting today, we appeal to GPRN to reconsider arid revoke its recent order that made the concurence/consent of the local MLA mandatory for executing any Manipur state governmental contracts works/projects within the Naga areas in the state," he said.
He said that the said order could prove to be detrimental to developmental activities and added that the appeal was made in the larger interest of the public, considering that GPRN is for the welfare of the entire population and not just for the MLAs.
