Demonetization, UNC blockade affect common people

Sadar Hills, November 11 2016: Taking advantage of the hardships faced by the people due to sudden demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and ongoing UNC's economic blockade, many people in Sadar Hills have been indulging in black business.

While people of Sadar Hills are busy depositing, withdrawing and exchanging Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes in bank, daily essential needs are gradually drying up.

Petrol which was sold at Rs 70/75 per litre is now sold at Rs 120 per litre in black market while diesel is sold at Rs 75 per litre.

Most of the oil pumps along the National Highway 2 in Sadar Hills and Senapati remained closed.

One businessman at Kangpokpi said if the blockade continues for another week, all the essential commodities will be dried up.
