44 AR observes 'Jal Shakti Ka Amrut' mahotsav

Imphal, March 23 2021: In conjunction with the Central Government's initiative on 'United Nations' World Water Day, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector AR/IGAR(E) celebrated 'Jal Shakti Ka Amrut' mahotsav and has come forward to assist the locals for access to clean & safe drinking water by cleaning & rejuvenating the traditional water source & reservoir at Azuiram village in Tousem sub-division and also carried out a cleanliness drive along the Barak river in COB Dikuiram area as a part of save river campaign.

Under the Jal Shakti ka Amrut initiative, 44 Assam Rifles is focusing on water harvesting, mapping of water resources, preparing water conservation plans by involving local populace, removing encroachments and obstructions in water channels for easy availability of water.

Celebration of 'Jal Shakti Ka Amrut' mahotsav was aimed to raise awareness among locals regarding importance of fresh water availability, conservation of water resources and ill-effects of degraded and depleting water resources.

As a part of pre-monsoon efforts and to rejuvenate the diminishing water supply, Assam Rifles emphasised on a comprehensive plan to ensure that the rivers flow throughout the year and clean water remained available for the hill people at all times.

The traditional water source existing in Azuiram village as well as the Barak water source at COB Dikuiram cater for most of the water supply needs of locals.

The unit's efforts of repairing and cleaning the water source at Azuiram and cleanliness along the Barak river at Dikuiram will help provide clean and hygienic water supply to the villagers.

In another insatnce Mantripukhri Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) celebrated World Water Day at St Anthony High School, Muirei of Imphal East district, Manipur on 23 March 21.In support of the ongoing awareness compaign on Water Conservation and preservation an awareness programme on 'World Water Day' was organised at St Anthony High School, Muirei by Mantripukhri Battalion.

The event was aimed to create awareness amongst youth of the school about the importance of water conservation and preservation in daily routine.

Emphasis was given on the various water conservation techniques that can be followed at homes and at school.

Methods of water harvesting were also taught to the audience.

A total of 86 students and teachers attended the event who expressed their profound gratitude towards the initiative taken by the Assam Rifles.

The event was conducted by strictly adhering to all covid-19 protocols and was followed by refreshments for all.
