Reacting to the news report appeared in some sections of the local dailies on November 6 regarding the report sent to the Meghalaya Government by the Union Ministry indicating that the Inner Line Permit system cannot be implemented in new States excluding other north eastern States where it is already in force, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has termed the report of the Union Ministry as an attempt to eliminate the indigenous people of North Eastern States.
In a statement, the JCILPS recalled that Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde during a meeting with representatives of JCILPS had gone to the extent of saying that the demand of implementation of ILP in the State is genuine and appealed to the State Government to pass a Bill on ILP implementation in the winter session of State Assembly due to begin from December 18 .
