Conflict beyond expertise of CSOs: Nando Luwang

While commenting on the general belief of the people that presence of too many CSOs in the state would not be able to bring solution to the on-going conflict in the state, All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) president Ph Nando Luwang has said that the CSOs are not experts in conflict resolution, but continuously working together with other like-minded bodies to come up with the best solution that serves the interest of Manipur.
A special discussion on 'Present Issue of Manipur' was organised by the Joint Action Co-ordination Committee, Lairikyengbam Leikai (Kontha Ahallup, Kairang, Laipham Khunou and Lairikyengbam Leikai, under the aegis of AMUCO, at Lairikyengbam Awang Leikai Community hall on Sunday.
Speaking as the chief guest, Nando contended that the central government is deriving pleasure by watching the violence perpetrated by Kuki militants in Manipur since May 3 as some kind of festival though there is no end in sight to the conflict in the state.
As such, there is the need for consensus amongst the people to protect the state from Kuki militants and for the indigenous communities to coordinate with one another, he stated, remarking that there have been no instances of anyone interfering in another's business and thus, efforts are needed to maintain this status quo into the future.
Nando then mentioned the CM's confusion on who to talk to due to the presence of large number of CSOs, which are disunited, stating that while his (CM) observance is appreciated, the first and foremost thing to be do is to identify the real enemy.
The people may regard the Kuki militants as the only enemy, but the real ene mies are many, their faces ever-changing and betrayal their ideology.
Thus, the main CSOs in the state are discussing the best way to deal with such enemies, he conveyed.
The AMUCO president then said that various strategies are needed in handling the on-going conflict, where 70 per cent is being fought at the frontlines and 30 per cent is in protest.
The people need to understand that the protests alone cannot bring changes.
The CSOs are well equipped for protests but not for fighting at the frontlines.
Thus, the CSOs are discussing what decisions to take at the right time, despite differences and disagreements.
Nando then affirmed the people's belief that the conflict could be easily handled if all the CSOs were to unite.
However, there is the need to discuss the advantages and disadvantages in this regard.
As the present days are becoming ever more unpredictable, AMUCO has been visiting the people and discussing the issues in detail.
Assuring that the CSOs in the state are co-operating with another and efforts are being made to unite under one umbrella body, Nando remarked that the CM may have been influenced by someone to pick on the above point as a means of portraying the CSOs as disunited groups in front of the enemy.
Thus, he stressed the need for everyone in the state to take a proactive role for protecting Manipur.
Presided over by Joint Action Co-ordination Committee chairman Ch Hemchand, the discussion was attended by Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur president L Memchoubi; AMAWOVA president Y Kunjarani; Young Progressive Union president Sagolsem Joykumar; NIUCAMO president Ch Okendro as guests of honour, and Indigenous People's Forum president Ashang Kasar as resource person.
