Imphal, June 30 2024:
Manipur leaders of NDIA bloc have urged BJP MLAs, who went to Delhi to join hands and mount pressure to the Prime Minister to resolve the crisis in the state.
Addressing the media at Congress Bhawan here on Sunday, CPI Manipur State Council former secretary L Sotinkumar advised BJP MLAs, who went to Delhi, to exert pressure on the Prime Minister to resolve the crisis instead of just focusing on saving the post of chief minister for N Biren.
Considering how only the ruling MLAs are rushing in Delhi, it is highly possible that some of them are there just for impressing the Central leadership of NDA government for continuation of Biren's leadership.
Recalling the recent security meet on Manipur chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah, Sotinkumar said that exclusion of the chief minister of the state is an act of undermining the state and its people.
INDIA bloc delegation, during a meeting with the chief minister on June 19, raised concern on the matter, he said.
Maintaining that the state is passing through a crucial stage, Sotinkumar informed that the 10 opposition parties of INDIA bloc has always been demanding for a joint effort to resolve the crisis.
Instead of finding an amicable solution, the Central government is eyeing military solution through crackdown on village volunteers.
INDIA bloc believes in solution through political dialogue but not through military means as the latter could deteriorate the situation further, he continued.
Sotinkumar further said that there is nothing to hope for with the NDA 3.0 as it does not care for the state and its people, as could be comprehended from the exclusion of the state in the President's address to the Parliament.
Nevertheless, the opposition parties are still firm on the stand of a political solution to the crisis and bring up the matter in the Parliament, he added.
He attributed continuation of the conflict in the state to the silence and neglect of Prime Minister.
People are not happy with the way the Central government is handling the crisis which is why NDA fared miserably in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
The public mandate in the recent Lok Sabha election was in itself a reasonable ground for the chief minister to resign, he contended.
Joining the media briefing, INDIA bloc convenor Kshetrimayum Shanta accused the chief minister of making false statements often during the crisis and also the CM for last year's 'resignation drama' .
Stating that the CM, in an interview with a national media, made claim that he invited INDIA bloc for a meeting on the crisis, Shanta said that the CM did not extended any invitation for the meeting.
The fact is, INDIA bloc filed a request for an appointment on June 17 which was approved for June 19 .
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) general secretary S Jiten, general secretary (organisation) Amir Hussain, T Debananda & Shyam Leitanthem of Shiv Sena (UBT) were also present at the press meet.
