ICHAM renders monetary assistance to blast victims

Imphal, February 20 2015 : President of Information Centre for Hill Areas, Manipur (ICHAM) Nongthombam Rajendra alias Boy on Friday provided monetary assistance to the family members of the deceased and injured victim of Kasom Kullen bomb blast.

It may be mentioned that NK Addison, son of Ningthar was killed while K Hillary, son of K William was injured in a bomb blast that occurred at Khunthak Village under Kasom Khullen sub-division in Ukhrul district on February 5 .

Talking to media persons at Langol Lanthumching here in connection with the handing over of monetary assistance to the blast victims, Convenor of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Bomb Blast at Khunthak J Mayarmi said that the State Govern-ment does not bother about the death of tribal people in the remote hill areas, but it acts swiftly whenever a non-Manipuri is killed or injured in the state.

The State Government has a policy of awarding an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakh to any slain non-Manipuri, but it has not provided any assistance to the victims of Kasom Khullen blast till date, he lamented.

While condemning the indifferent attitude of the State Government towards the blast victims, deceased Addison's wife NK Sophia said that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and other top officials visited the victims of Thangal Bazar blast and took stock of the situation on the day itself, but they have completely ignored the victims of Kasom Khullen blast.

President of ICHAM N Rajendro said that ICHAM would render all possible assistances and support to the JAC and family members of the victims.

He further urged the State Government to improve the law and order situation of the state, and take up strict action to stop referral of patients from government hospitals to private hospitals.

Unable to pay huge medical expenses at a private hospital, the injured victim Hillary is now staying at one of his relatives' home for treatment.

The victim might not have faced such a difficult situation if the government hospitals were made functional fully, Rajendra rued.
