Parties press for special session, Governor assures

Representatives of 10 non BJP political parties met Governor Anusuiya Uikey and submitted a memorandum urging her to convene a special assembly session to discuss the prevailing restive situation and bring an end to it.
The representatives of the 10 political parties including INC, JD-U, CPI, CPI (M), AITC Manipur Pradesh, AAP, AIFB, NCP, Shiv Sena (UBT) and RSP Manipur will be leaving Imphal for Delhi on Wednesday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan after meeting the Governor on Tuesday, JD-U spokesperson Nimaichand Luwang said that the 10 like-minded political parties in the state working to restore peace submitted application seeking appointment with the Prime Minister and expressed hope that the proposal will be approved.
An advance team of the political parties has already left for Delhi while the remaining will head for the national capital on Wednesday.
He opined that ending the ethnic violence in the state should be priority of the central government and the same will be highlighted to the Prime Minister.
While pointing out that the 10 Kuki MLAs who are demanding for a separate ad ministration had been part and parcel of the government as two out of the 7 BJP MLAs are cabinet ministers and the remaining 3 alliance partners, Nimaichand contended that their demand not only tantamount to disintegrating Manipur but such a move could be interpreted as covert agenda of the government.
The BJP has neither uttered a single word against the MLAs trying to destroy Manipur nor served explanation call to the 7 BJP MLAs.
Moreover, chief minister N Biren has also not taken up any actions against the two BJP cabinet ministers even though his duty as the head of the ruling party is to remove them from his cabinet minis -ters, Nimaichand explained.
He also maintained that as the chief minister seems indifferent to convening special session of assembly to discuss the prevailing situation and take a collective decision to protect territorial integrity of Manipur, the 10 political parties submitted a memoran dum to the Governor urging for a special assembly session at the earliest, he added.
He also said that the Peace Committee under the leadership of the Governor has been constituted without seeking opinions of those who are to be members.
As such, various individuals and organisa tions disapproved inclusion as members of the committee.
For JD-U too MLA Abdul Nasir has been enlisted as a member but JD-U will not allow Abdul Nasir to represent the party under any circumstances.
Joining the media briefing, MSC CPI state secretary L Sotinkumar said that the Governor assured representatives of the political parties that a special assembly session will be called at the earliest possible and suggested that PM Modi be approached to intervene and end the crisis the state.
Meanwhile, CLP leader and former chief minister O fbobi Singh lamented that the central government is not according importance to address crisis besieging Manipur while reminding the centre extending monetary compensation for victims of the ethnic violence is not a solution.
While welcoming the decision of CM Biren to construct 4000 houses for the displaced people, Ibobi, however, expressed apprehension that none of the displaced people will be willing to stay in the houses considering the deep distrust between the two communities.
The press conference was also attended by representatives of the 10 political parties.
