Charge framed against two co-accused in PREPAK ex-chairman murder case

Imphal, October 12 2018: Special Court NIA has framed charges against two co-accused in connection with the murder of PREPAK ex-chairman NingombamNabachandra alias Nongdrenkhomba and fixed October 30 for the next hearing of the case.

It may be mentioned that on January 4 this year, NIA submitted additional charge sheet against the two co-accused Sairom Rabichandra (36) s/o Ahanbi of Uripok Yambem Leikai and Sapam Basanta (38) of Tera Sapam Leirak in connection with the murder of PREPAK ex-chairman Nongdrenkhomba and his driver, Leishangthem Sanjit, inside the quarter of 7th Manipur Rifles at Khabeisoi on the intervening night of June 21 and 22, 2016 .

Sairom Rabichandra was arrested from his residence by a NIA team on July 10 last year (for allegedly supplying the weapons used in the crime) and as a follow up action, Sapam Basanta was arrested by NIA from his residence on 16 July along with two small arms.

One of the accused, Urikhinbam Budhichandra alias Budhi alias Poirei ( who is still absconding) was split from the case by an order of the Court on October 16 last year and after continuous hearing, charge was framed against four of the accused namely Thokchom Gouri alias Ibungo alias Konsam (25) s/o Th Ibomcha of Wangoo Sandangkhong, Haobam Ahead alias Lemba (40) s/o (L) Danikumar of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai, Ahongsangbam Kingson alias Yaiphaba (23) of fhangmeiband Khomdram Selungbam Leikai and Laichongbam Naocha alias Malangba (24) s/o Basanta of Wangpokpu Mamang Leikai, on December 16.In the charge sheet submitted by the NIA, Urikhinbam Budhichandra conspired with Thongbram Sanjit to kill Nongdrenkhomba, the ex chairman of PREPAK, who was staying at a designated camp for surrendered militants inside 7 Manipur Rifles complex at Khabeisoi and as such they hired Ahongsangbam Kingson and Laichombam Naocha to carry-ing out the hit.

It was mentioned that Th Gouri asked Th Sanjit to supply the weapons and so Sanjit contacted S Basanta to make necessary arrangements for procuring the weapons.

Thereafter, Basanta told Sanjit to collect the weapons from an unknown individual at Uripok Yambem Leikai.

After collecting the weapons, Budhi handed them to Ahongsangbam Kingson and Laichongbam Naocha.

Then on June 21, 2016, at around 7.30 pm, when one London went away to his native village and a festival was being celebrated inside the 7th MR complex, two of the accused went inside the quarter and executed the ex chairman of PREPAK and his driver, it added.
