DESAM hails Bill to curb exam malpractices

While expressing gratification over passing of "The Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in HSLC and HSE Bill - 2024", Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the Governor to give her assent for enactment of the Bill at the earliest possible.
Speaking to media persons at Kwakeithel Junior Boys' School, here, on Tuesday, DESAM president Mayengbam Somorjit Meetei expressed confidence that tabling and subsequent passing of the Bill in Tuesday's sitting of the assembly session will help expeditious materialisation of the Alliance's goal to promote quality education in the state.
As part of the initiative, DESAM had also urged department and minister concerned as well as the chief minister to constitute a legal panel which the state cabinet endorsed on December 4, finally culminating with passage of the Bill in the Assembly, he said, while adding that the Bill, in addition to bringing a change in the education system, will also spur quality education.
The president also welcomes launch of "College Phagathansi Mission" by the state government for quality education at college level while commending longterm vision of government.
Further noting implementation of the National Education Policy - 2020 in the state with addition of new courses earlier missing in educational curricula, he also suggested prompt redressal of the issue of shortage of qualified teachers for the new courses, including rationalisation of teachers at the earliest possible.
Somorjit also appealed to the government to implement guidelines of NEP-2020 stating that students from preschool to class VIII should be taught in their mother tongues while conveying that DESAM will do the needful to make the policy effective in consultation with stakeholders concerned.
