Ukhrul, May 28 2015 :
Amidst a growing need to house and rehabilitate victims of frequent cases of human trafficking and sexual abuse, the Ukhrul District Alliance for Child Rights (UDACR) has pointed out that Ukhrul district has long been denied any shelter-home though there is a short stay-home.
A fact-finding team of UDACR told media persons on Thursday that as per the findings of its mission, there is no shelter home anywhere in Ukhrul district.
Pointing out that as per the Government guidelines, there should be at least one functional shelter-home in each district, UDACR bemoaned that lack of such home continued to stand in the way of providing victims of child trafficking and sexual exploitation with care and rehabilitation in a safe and secure environment.
The team then appealed to the relevant authorities to provide at least one such home for the district so as not to deprive victims of various exploitations of the care they need after the ordeal.
Meanwhile, during a joint visit of UDACR and media persons on Thursday found a short stay-home in the form of a Protective and Rehabilitative Home functioning in Phungreitang East.
According to a functionary of the home S Ningtipla, the institute has rescued at least 15 victims of various forms of exploitation since its establishment in 2013 .
