Kangpokpi, May 28 2015 :
A day after Southern Angami People's organization (SAPO) approved of imposing "Economic Blockade" against Mao community within the jurisdiction of SAPO, the apex body United Naga Council (UNC) has appealed to both the parties to come together with mutual understanding and mutual respect in the spirit of brotherhood among the Nagas.
The UNC publicity Wing in a press statement has expressed concern over the issue and called for resolving the matter through the traditional Naga customary court.
However, UNC also slammed the Manipur State Government for considering the issue as a State issue taking the name of territorial integrity.
Contending the government's policy of 'fishing in trouble waters' by making it as a State issue, the UNC has stated that, the Dzkou issue is a 'family problem' within the Naga brothers and cannot be over exaggerated by external elements on the pretext of protecting state territorial integrity.
Such involvement of the government in collaboration with other elements is "uncalled for and unfortunate", the UNC stated.
The Nagas since its ancient times has never depended on any other legal institutions but its customary judicial system which has also seen disputes and problems resolved with mutual respect for each other, said UNC.
The council said Nagas has been judicially dependent on the traditional customary court to settle any issue and that it appealed both the Mao Council and SAPO to uphold the customary court to settle any dispute.
Expressing concern over the claims by both the communities, UNC appealed to the two parties to restraint from taking any drastic measures.
Informing that, efforts are being made to resolve the matter at the earliest, the UNC has also met Naga Hoho and necessary steps taken for organizing a meeting with Mao leaders.
