Imphal, May 28 2015 :
Veteran politician O Joy has suggested on Thursday for setting up of a boundary commission to end boundary disputes and predicted Manipur's predicament after Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls 2015 over Dzkou Valley encroachment issue.
Speaking to media at his residence in Kakwa here, O Joy cited the current boundary issue prevailing in Manipur, which he said a serious problem.
He stated that there is public outcry against encroachment of Manipur's territory in Dzkou under Senapati district by people from neighbouring Nagaland State.
However, the old timer said that such inter-state boundary disputes have been occurring every now and then.
"Manipur is likely to be thrown into a tricky situation because of the Dzkou boundary dispute after the council polls on June 1," he said.
He referred to the 1979 violent-border dispute between Assam and Nagaland during which security forces of the two neighbouring States killed each other.
O Joy maintained that Centre's timely intervention in such disputes is a must.
He said there is an impression that the Centre has always shown indifferent attitude towards all border disputes in the North East.
The former minister disparaged the host of Union Ministers who are regularly visiting the State, saying they are well aware about the fact pertaining to the Dzkou issue.
"They need serious contemplation on this issue.
Their silence has created doubts about the issue being politicised," he said.
Joy said that a political forum was there for the regional political parties of the North East in the past, which would work to settle all matters.
He also highlighted the need for a united effort of these States to straighten out all common issues.
