Conclave on Foreign language held

A one-day conclave on 'Opportunities of learning foreign languages-employability, higher education and business', was organised by Teqnet Foundation in collaboration with Classic Group of Hotels, Globiz Web Solution Pvt Ltd, Thangjam Agro Business Ltd, Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Medilane Healthcare Pvt Ltd and Manipur Times at Classic Grande, Chingmeirong on Saturday.
The inaugural function of the conclave was attended by Babina Group of Companies chairman Dr Th Dhabali as chief guest; School of Humanities MU dean Prof Soibam Imoba as president while NIELIT Imphal director N Debachandra and Research & Development Cell MU director Prof Ch Ibohal Meitei were present as guests of honour.
Speaking at the event, Dr Th Dhabali highlighted the importance of a language in communicating with one another.
He continued that it is the primary objective of all to find a job after completing a course, for which the employability factor in addition to the basic qualification needs to be considered.
In every job, communication skills play an important role and as such, one needs to learn and be fluent in the required language.
Pointing out many students from Manipur going to other states or countries to pursue higher education, he stressed the need for learning the language of that place, if English is not the first or second language.
Whether it be for education or business, having knowledge of foreign language is never a loss, he stated.
Dr Dhabali then mentioned that Korea has the highest number of skilled people at 87 per cent, followed by Japan at 72 per cent and USA at 65 per cent.
However, India has only 3.5 per cent skilled people and lack of the same hinders employability.
The Manipur government is also unable to provide jobs to everyone, while the number of people seeking jobs is increasing every day.
As such, many leave the state to work in foreign countries, which necessitates knowledge of foreign languages, he said, and urged all to learn foreign languages.
During the technical session, resource persons spoke on the topics of 'Opportunities of learning Korean language', 'Opportunities of learning Japanese language' and 'Opportunities pf learning Mandarin (Chinese lan guage)', etc.
