Chandel, CCpur review LS poll preparation

Chandel deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar, who is also the district election officer, reviewed preparedness for the 18th Lok Sabha election along with district level officers, officials of different departments and representatives of political parties in a meeting held at the conference hall of DC Chandel office on Tuesday.
During the meeting, Rajkumar appealed to officials of different departments to help in ensuring free and fair conduct of the election to be held in Chandel district for Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.
He expressed that altogether 11 companies of central paramilitary forces might be utilised for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in Chandel district amid the Election Commission planning to have 20 all women polling stations in Chandel in the upcoming election.
He also appealed to the voters, who have been displaced by the ongoing violence and staying in relief camps to submit an application to ARO or SDO Chandel so that they could exercise their franchise at polling stations located near by their relief camps as they would not be able to cast vote at their respective polling stations.
The meeting was also at tended by representatives of BJP and NPF.
In Churachandpur, district election officer (DEO)/deputy commissioner (DC) Dharun Kumar reviewed preparedness for the ensuing General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024 at the DC Office, Mini-Secretariat here on Tuesday.
During the meeting, matters relating to the upcoming election such as modus operandi for arrangement of voting facilities for internally displaced persons'(IDPs)/ specified voters at special polling stations to be set up at relief camps, material management, manpower managements, etc., were discussed.
The DEO instructed district nodal officers/ARQs to expedite their assigned tasks and ensure that the preparations go on smoothly.
He also informed all to get prepared as elections notification may be issued soon.
It may be mentioned that the Election Commission of India, after due consultation with the central government and state government has directed that all displaced persons who had to leave their native places during the conflict shall continue to be borne on the electoral rolls of the assembly and parliamentary constituencies concerned.
The internally displaced electors or the specified voters shall be provided with the facility to vote at 'Special Polling Stations' to be set up in relief camps.
At present the district has about 17,911 IDPs sheltering at 115 relief centres.
