Bodies clarify on Guwahati meeting

United NGOs Mission (UNM), Manipur, North East Dialogue Forum (NEDF) and individuals who participated in a meeting organised by All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) in Guwahati on May 17 clarified that the gathering focused on addressing the urgent need for humanitarian services amid the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
According to a statement jointly signed by UNMM secretary L Pishak, NEDF advisor U Nobokishore and social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram, they took part in the meeting following an invitation from AMCO.
The meeting aimed to discuss the pressing needs of large-scale civilian populations, particularly those internally displaced and daily wage earners, severely affected by the conflict, They emphasised that their participation was on individual basis and not as representatives of the Meetei community or Meetei civil society organisations (CSOs) .
Dr Dhanabir Laishram, one of the attendees, highlighted the plight of internally displaced persons and the impact on the livelihoods and education of daily wage earners during the discussion, it stated.
The statement also clarified that the meeting focused solely on humanitarian services and peace prayers, and was not intended to be a "Peace Talk or Negotiation" .
The organisations expressed their respect for the sentiments and concerns of the people.
